Aikido is a fascinating martial art
which relies on a combination of timing, balance, entering and
turning body movements and atemi (strikes) to redirect aggressive
attacks in a circular or spiral path. The aggressor is brought
under control and the attack is neutralized. Aikido techniques
generally end
in a throw, joint lock or pin. For this reason, Aikido is popular
with police because it can be used to control an aggressor without
brutality.
Aikido practice also helps develop strength, coordination, and
flexibility, as well as a calm and focused mind. For some it also
becomes a deeply spiritual practice. |
